Lake Highlands is the large northeast Dallas neighborhood above White Rock Lake, about five miles from our office. We reach it by Northwest Highway, Park Lane and Church Road. It is a collection of dozens of subdivisions, split by I-635 and the DART Blue Line and served mostly by Richardson ISD schools.
Most of Lake Highlands was built in the later part of the 20th century, and in our experience the typical house is a ranch or split-level with a two-car garage facing the street. The land is not flat: street elevations vary by as much as 50 feet, so driveways pitch toward or away from the garage door. A steep apron changes how a door seals at the floor and where rain runs. White Rock Creek and its trails thread through the neighborhoods.
The October 2019 tornado's damage path ran east to near US 75 and Forest Lane, along the neighborhood's western edge, and the National Weather Service also found damage farther northeast near Audelia and Buckingham Roads in Richardson.
