The installation covers the door, the tracks, the springs wound to the finished weight of that door, the cables and rollers, the weather seal and the opener hookup, then a balance check, a photo-eye height check and a 2x4 reversal test. Is an insulated garage door worth it in Texas?
Usually yes if the garage is attached, shares a wall with living space or doubles as a workshop. An insulated door slows heat transfer in summer, cuts noise, and is stiffer, so it takes dents better. A detached, rarely used garage may not justify the extra cost.
What does a garage door R-value mean?
R-value is the door's thermal resistance; a higher number means less heat passes through. DASMA defines R-value as the inverse of U-value. Compare doors by the listed value, not by thickness alone.
How do I know if a garage door is wind rated?
Look for the label on the door listing the maker, the model and the positive and negative design wind pressures. FEMA says the 2021 International Residential Code calls for garage doors to be tested and labeled this way, and that the rating data must be checked against the building location.
Do I need a permit to install a new garage door?
It depends on the city and on whether the opening changes. Dallas's published exemptions include replacing existing doors where the framing does not change, and Addison's page says enlarging a door opening needs a permit. Each city we serve publishes its own rules, so check yours before ordering.
How much time does a new door install need?
