When a garage door scrapes, binds or leaves the track, the track is usually bent, loose or out of line, and it will not fix itself. Each side of the door rides in a vertical track fastened to the jamb, curving into horizontal tracks that run along the ceiling. The rollers need a small, even clearance inside that channel, and the two sides must be parallel and plumb or the door twists as it travels.
We check both sides for dents, flat spots, loose brackets and lag screws, and the horizontal tracks for sag. Minor bends are straightened and the track is re-fastened and leveled; badly creased sections or worn brackets are replaced. We set the gap between roller and track, confirm the horizontal tracks sit level, and check that the door and opener travel smoothly from top to bottom afterward.

Ground movement is the North Texas reason for track trouble. A soil fact sheet hosted by the Texas Water Development Board describes the Blackland Prairie belt, which begins north of Dallas and runs south, as highly expansive clay whose very high shrink-swell potential commonly limits building sites. As the ground around a slab swells in wet springs and shrinks in dry summers, a door opening can shift and take the vertical tracks with it. Add the occasional bumper strike, and tracks set true at installation drift out of line. We measure plumb and parallel from the jamb, not from the old bracket holes.
